Art & Design

Art & Design day 1

Materials

Pencils
Paper
Graphite
Acrylic paint
Ink
Acetate
Cartridge paper

Process

The first thing we done for the art carousel was mark making. We had a dozen pieces of paper and each time the teacher would give us a feeling to draw for example we had to draw anger. She then played music and told us to draw the music which was the most difficult part. The types of music that was played were rock and classical.
After that we put some of our best drawings onto an A2 piece of paper and made a collage Experimenting with acrylic paint, Charcoal and graphite.

In the Afternoon we done some mono printing using different paper based materials that had indents in them which meant that we could create some cool effects.
After preparing the materials that we needed, We used a roller to cover the material in ink. Once that was done we put the materials through a press on top of some cartridge paper.
The result showed the inked pattern on the paper.

Technical Skills

The skills i learnt from the first day was how to do mark making, and also how to do prints.
A specific skill i have learnt from the mark making was that in order to make your drawings more interesting its good to put different amounts of pressure on the pencil as you concert soft lines swell as very bold lines.

Check sketchbook for art and design drawings.

Art & Design day 2

Process

For the second day we took the A2 collage we had made on the first day and cut into it and folded it to create a sculpture. I started off by folding the paper down until it was a quarter of the original size. I then proceeded to cut triangles and other shapes into the paper. The outcome was pretty cool. After that the teacher told us to place are structure's onto different objects and photograph them. This is my paper structure on top of a manikin head. I think that this makes the manikin stand out and look abstract.

Technical Skills

The skills that i have learnt from the second day of the art carousel is that when you are folding your paper you need to make sure the lines are dead straight otherwise the paper will crease and it wont look any good.

Ideas for 3D project (Unit 6)

3D Research At the start of any project, its always a good idea to have a look around and try and find some ideas and techniques to use. because the project is on 3D. i began my search on pintrest and simply typed "3D". there were hundreds of photos, collages and physical pieces to chose from. i started with the most recognised style of 3D. anaglyphic photography. anaglyphic is basically the red and blue lines that appear on the edges of the objects being photographed. This is an example of an anaglyphic photograpgh. the photo shows a model in the right third of the image. the photo is being shot in an architectural area. from looking at many photos. alot of the anaglyphic shots are taken in areas with buildings or structures, this is because of the straight edges which makes the 3D effect stand out.  this is an analogue example for my 3D project. this is called lenticular printing. this technique is all about perspective. as you can see depending on wha...

Sam Taylor Johnson

Born on the 4 th of March 1967, Sam Taylor Johnson is an English Photographer and filmmaker. Originally known as Sam Taylor Wood, she started to display her fine art photography in the 1990s. One of the series on her website that I found quite interesting was a group of photos under the title “lone rider”. The photos are taken of lone isolated cars and motorcycles from a side view and the images are all black and white with the shadows and vignetting increased. Looking at the photos I get the feeling of peacefulness and tranquillity as the car is in the centre of the frame, this reflects the simplicity of life. These vehicles are made to be on busy roads, driven at speed and constantly used, which is why it’s peaceful to see them at rest, to see them standing alone. To try and recreate this I will be locating lone cars which are situated in front of a brick wall or a simplistic . I will then try and get the best composition to try and get a similar outcome to Sam Taylo...

Frank Machalowski | Chaos

Frank Michalowski Frank Machalowski is a German freelance photographer who I came across whilst searching for photos that show chaos. After further research i came across a series of photos called "monster".  The photos look really moody to me as they are black and white and have high contrast. The photos include the rush of people. which creates a blur. The way he creates these photos is by using a slow shutter speed of 5 seconds to get the blur. To recreate these photos I am going to go to London and shoot long exposures of people walking past. The equipment I will use will be my camera a tripod a shutter release and a ND filter. The photograph on the left is interesting as it is symmetrical and also has leading lines that draw your eyes to the top third of the picture. I like the different shades of black and grey that the rush of people create. This reminds me of a pencil smudge. This is a photo I took in the style of frank Machalowski. The locati...
